Social Responsibility

In recent years, China has witnessed a series of major incidents involving environmental pollution and resource degradation, which have inflicted severe harm on the general public. As a result, public attention to corporate social responsibility has been steadily increasing. Water treatment enterprises that prioritize environmental sustainability are truly fulfilling their CSR obligations by delivering benefits to both the government and the broader public, thereby maximizing the positive impact of CSR and achieving scientific, efficient management that creates win-win outcomes.

As a foundational industry vital to the national economy and people’s livelihoods, the water sector is inextricably linked to daily life; neither the supply of water products nor the delivery of water services can afford the slightest error. Yet in recent years, China has witnessed a series of serious incidents involving environmental pollution and resource degradation, causing significant harm to the public and prompting growing attention to corporate social responsibility. Water service enterprises that genuinely fulfill their CSR commitments deliver tangible benefits to both the government and the general public, thereby maximizing the positive impact of CSR and achieving scientific, efficient management that creates win-win outcomes.

Water utilities that prioritize environmental sustainability can proactively assume corporate social responsibility, meet economic, social, and ecological needs, integrate these objectives into their business strategies, leverage their core strengths, and enhance operational efficiency.

In light of the current development status of water utilities in China, corporate social responsibility (CSR) helps to enhance the relationships between water utilities and their various stakeholders. These stakeholder relationships, in turn, exert a positive influence on the performance of water utilities and mediate the relationship between CSR and performance improvement. Yuanjie Water Utilities collected data through interviews and questionnaires, conducted descriptive statistics, reliability and validity tests, variance analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis to verify the interrelationships among the overall variables. Subsequently, structural equation modeling was employed to explore the intrinsic connections and causal pathways among the different dimensions of these variables and to test the hypothesized relationships. The findings indicate that CSR has a significant positive impact on the performance of water utilities, and that the effective implementation of CSR helps to improve the relationships between water utilities and their stakeholders, thereby enhancing utility performance through better stakeholder engagement.
