Treated Treated Water Disposal

Based on the “Outdoor Water Supply Design Standard” (GB 50013–2018) issued by the state this year, and in light of the current status and challenges associated with the treatment of “tailwater” at older water treatment plants located in mountainous areas that rely on reservoir water as their source, Beijing Huaxia Yuanjie Water Technology Co., Ltd.—a company with more than 20 years of experience in tap water purification, secondary pressurized water supply, direct drinking water systems, and water environment pollution control—has proposed its own R&D approach for conventional tailwater treatment: replacing traditional reinforced-concrete sludge ponds and sludge thickening tanks with prefabricated, modular steel high-efficiency cyclonic sedimentation tanks; and substituting conventional reinforced-concrete sludge thickening and equalization tanks with prefabricated, modular steel sludge conditioning tanks.

   Features:
  1. In the past, some conventional water treatment plants’ effluent treatment systems were designed with an overemphasis on plant scale, following the now-repealed Code for Outdoor Water Supply Design and adopting a “large-and-comprehensive” approach. This resulted in underutilization of certain facilities and equipment, leading to excessive capital investment.
  2. In conventional water treatment plants, the “effluent” treatment system does not differentiate based on the turbidity level of the raw water; in some cases, filter backwash water is also included in sludge thickening and dewatering, leading to frequent disruption of the clear–sludge separation within the sludge thickening tank due to the influx of filter backwash water.
   3. For source water with low turbidity (such as reservoir water), the backwash water from the filter beds can be recycled and returned to the mixing and reaction zone of the sedimentation (clarification) basin.
  4. For reservoir water with low turbidity, the retrofit of effluent treatment technology should preferably employ the on-site assembled, rapid, and highly efficient “effluent” treatment system manufactured by Beijing Huaxia Yuanjie Water Technology Co., Ltd. Given that all major process tanks are constructed of steel, fabrication and installation can be completed quickly.
  5. For older water treatment plants with limited land availability and where further land acquisition is challenging, the “effluent” treatment system manufactured by Beijing Huaxia Yuanjie Water Technology Co., Ltd. requires approximately 40% less land compared with conventional “effluent” treatment systems.
  6. Beijing Huaxia Yuanjie Water Technology Co., Ltd. conducted small-scale and pilot-scale trials on the treatment of water plant “effluent,” achieving excellent results. In particular, the design, fabrication, and operation of the high-efficiency cyclonic sedimentation tank have incorporated and built upon the technical advantages of vertical-flow sedimentation tanks for wastewater treatment, while also introducing innovative technological improvements. To achieve efficient separation of turbid and clear water, the tank structure has been divided into distinct zones.
